About the event
Based on Michel's research and trips to Syria We will explore the rich and complex Jewish legacy in Syria, tracing the community’s history from ancient times but focusing on the modern era (20th and 21st centuries). Michel will share photographs from his trips to Syria as well.
About the speaker:
Michel Gordon holds a degree in Physics from the University of São Paulo (USP), a Master’s in Oceanography (USP), and another Master’s in Islamic Studies and Middle Eastern History from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He has written several books, including "Um Judeu no Isla" (Maayanot Publishing), "My Tehran, Your Tehran" (Iranian Artists Forum, Tehran), and "Life & Legacy: A Window into Jewish Life Across the Islamic World" (University of Groningen Press, Netherlands). His work bridges the fields of science, history, and cultural studies, offering unique insights into the intersection of Jewish and Islamic worlds.
